The problem aren't even tax cuts and how to finance those, it's how to finance entitlement programs like Medicaid and Social Security. If you think 9 trillion is a lot, those two programs, combined with Medicare have an unfunded obligations sum of 55 trillion. Then you have 16 trillion in US insurance guarantees and then the debt. It all goes to around 80 trillion USD. Peachy. This is why I am unsure on if I will stay in the USA after I will graduate there. I'm not willing to pick up the bill.

[...] The tax deferral is a huge benefit. That benefit will only increase as tax rates rise (given the huge debt we have built up it is logical to believe taxes will go up to pay off spending today with the tax increases passed to the future to pay for our current spending).
The continued increase of inflation is a serious problem. Eventually the federal reserve needs to take serious action (raising the discount rate). And the politicians need to stop raising taxes on the future to spend more and more every year...

I think a country that is more than $500,000 in debt per household should not send out checks to taxpayers to try pretend they are doing something to help the economy...

It's true in both politics and business -- there's a lot of pressure to take the short-term view, and much less to look at the long run. But we're going to have to take the long view to get out of our fiscal mess. thanks for the post.
